ABOUT:
SWELL is a series of new work showings, hosted by Chuck Wilt / UNA Projects. Through Seasonal Showings, SWELL brings a unique opportunity to emerging choreographers:
challenging choreographers to show “new work” to an audience in order to facilitate the making or revising of choreography. By sharing an early to middle stage of a choreographer's process, an audience creates a deeper relationship to the choreographer and the developmental timeline of their art. The audience is invited to have a dialogue with the artists and be a part of their process and development.
The showings currently have so far featured Tisch Alumni choreographers and are for NEW WORK. These showings take place in the Jack Crystal Theater on the 5th floor of the Tisch Dance building. They are casual, relatively unplugged and supposed to be fun!
Choreographers also receive access to limited rehearsal space and the use of minimal lighting for the showings. They receive a small stipend for their participation as well as photographs and video footage of their work.
SWELL is possible through generous support from Tisch Dance NYU, Directed by Sean Curran and the Tisch Summer Dance Festival, Directed by Pamela Pietro.
