INDIVIDUAL GIVING
NOW MORE THAN EVER, WE ARE CALLING UPON PATRONS OF THE ARTS TO HELP US CONTINUE DANCING.
From January to March 2020, we were fortunate enough to be in residence through CUNY Dance Initiative at Brooklyn College, perform excerpts of new work Grass is Green during APAP (NYC), and be in residence at Berkeley Ballet Theater as their second Artists in Residence where we began the creation of new works Two Rivers and M and continued the creation of Grass is Green. We also created a new work for Berkeley Ballet Theater/Post Ballet’s performance Rightfully Ours which celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment, and was performed at the YBCA Theater featuring the SF Girls Chorus. We were also in residence through LITVAKDance in Encinitas, where we taught workshops and shared a split-bill performance with the San Diego based dance company.
We were scheduled to set repertory on the LINES Ballet Professional Training Program, teach public choreography/repertory workshops in San Francisco, host open showings and workshops in NYC. We were also set to return to Springboard Danse Montreal as a Resident Choreographer, where the company would have created new work for program participants, been in residence creating and performing new work, and toured to Jerusalem, Israel where we would have performed new work - though these opportunities and others were not possible because of COVID-19.
Between May and October, however, we were able to create a collaborative film project with company members virtually, as well as create a new work virtually for NYU Tisch Dance's SADC Senior class. Both of these opportunities were beacons of hope during an unprecedented year.
In 2021, UNA will be returning to the studio. As a bi-coastal, project based company, our operations were primarily shut down throughout the pandemic, without ability to restart because of the level of safety involved and financial stress on the organization. We are hopeful for the capacity to develop safe, concentrated periods of rehearsals in the new year - allowing the company to pick up where we left off a year prior with works-in-progress and creating new work that will be shared in-person and virtually as safety measures permit.
We will be in residence at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center and setting work on the University of Maryland's Dance Department. UNA will also remount our work 'Ebb' on the NYU SADC dancers for their Spring concert and tour to Jerusalem for the Jaffa to Agripas Festival in October 2021.
UNA’s continued work and involvement in the community is primarily made possible through the generosity and vision of our donors. We are excited to announce that we have received support from the Phyllis C. Wattis Foundation, in order to make up for lost income this year, and support our return to the studio. We are hopeful about this support, though, in order to achieve our goals for our safe return, we need to raise additional funds. We are asking you to join UNA’s community and help us grow our impact through your charitable support.
Every gift matters and helps us reach $20,000.
UNA has multiple tiers of giving, each with unique benefits and meaningful ways to engage with the company.
Thank you for your continued support and for being a part of UNA’s family!
Sincerely,
Chuck Wilt
