UNA's mission is to discover and communicate deeply rooted embodiments of human existence through physically powerful dancing and imagery that are evocative and colorful. UNA cultivates a rich creative environment both for the company and community in addition to creating more opportunity for performers, choreographers and other artists.
Founded by Artistic Director & Choreographer Chuck Wilt, UNA is a 501c3 non-profit organization. All donations to the company are 100% tax-deductible.
UNA's patrons are an integral part of the dance company's impact. Up until 2017, the company was solely funded by the generosity and vision of our individual donors.
As we expand, our funding sources have diversified to include earned income, grants from foundations including the Phyllis C. Wattis Foundation, the Kenneth & Kyona Zak Foundation, the Kenneth Rainin Foundation, Ford Foundation and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, sponsorships and in-kind support from small businesses, and corporate-matching including from Bank of America and F'Real Foods.
UNA has multiple tiers of giving, each with unique benefits and meaningful ways to engage with the company - See below to learn how you can give at the level that is right for you.

NOW MORE THAN EVER, WE ARE CALLING UPON PATRONS OF THE ARTS TO HELP US CONTINUE DANCING, CREATING AND PERFORMING.
In 2021, UNA returned to the studio after one year apart. As a bi-coastal, project-based company, our operations were primarily shut down throughout the pandemic, without ability to restart because of the level of safety involved and financial stress on the organization. Through the support of UNA's donors as well as Foundation and Institutional support, we fortunately developed safe, concentrated periods of rehearsals. For five weeks in the spring, UNA built a bubble residency in San Diego, allowing the company to pick up where we left off a year prior with works-in-progress and beginning a new work. Additionally, the company rehearsed for one month in NYC this Fall, preparing for the premiere of our evening-length work Grass is Green (March 2022), as well as continuing the development of new work M. To close out 2021, we were in residence through RoundAntennae in San Francisco/Berkeley, where we created two new works with company members and guests. We shared excerpts of these new works during public showings in San Francisco/Berkeley, which were our first public showings since March 2020!
Although the company is having a slow return to being in the studio together, this year, UNA was commissioned by the most Universities and Training Programs to date. UNA created and set repertory on NYU Tisch, SALT Professional Training Program, University of Maryland, Ailey Fordham University, Mason Gross Rutgers University and the Alonzo King Lines Ballet Training Program.
For our 2022 Season, we are hopeful and excited for more opportunities to create new works, as well as our first in-person performances and tours since 2020.
The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center in Maryland has co-commissioned the premiere of Grass is Green, which will involve eight company artists and Drag Queen/live musician Rose Nylons. Additionally, I will be a Resident Choreographer at renowned professional dance program, Springboard Danse Montreal- where UNA will perform and create new work for the company and program participants. We also plan to tour new work to Jerusalem for the Jaffa to Agripas Festival in October 2021 with support from the MidAtlantic Foundation's US Artists International grant. And more to come!
UNA’s continued work and involvement in the community is primarily made possible through the generosity and vision of our donors. In order to achieve our goals for our continued rehearsing and safe return to performing/touring, we are asking you to join UNA’s community and help us grow our impact through your charitable support.
Every gift matters and helps us reach our goal.
UNA has multiple tiers of giving, each with unique benefits and meaningful ways to engage with the company.
Thank you for your continued support and for being a part of UNA’s family!
Sincerely,
Chuck Wilt
